LILA* Liverpool Lime St Station

Spring has sprung in Liverpool! Upcoming events in the month of May.

Liverpool has benefitted from some wonderful weather these past few days and residents and visitors alike are hopeful that it’s here to stay. There’s nothing quite as lovely as the picturesque parks, beautiful waterfront, and stunning architecture of Liverpool when illuminated by the glorious glow of the sun. Take a ferry trip on the River Mersey to see the ‘The Three Graces’ (The Royal Liver Building, The Cunard Building and the Port of Liverpool Building) framed by a brilliant blue sky or the setting sun and I bet you’ll fall in love with Liverpool.

Of course, good weather brings out the best in us all. I love the smiley, happy faces it brings with it and the city seems to really open up and embrace the light and energy. Hopefully, you’ll see this for yourself!

So, what does Liverpool have on this spring season? Well…lots!

Light Night Liverpool 2015

Friday 15th May - Light Night happens just once a year and is the night that Liverpool’s world-class galleries, museums, and public spaces stay open late into the night to showcase the city’s arts and culture. It’s more like an arts festival than a late-night opening and sees the city centre come alive with street performances, exhibitions, light projections, and hands-on activities for all ages.

Over 50 locations are used across the city, including some of the city’s most beautiful and interesting spaces. Over 100 local organisations take part and work together to create a really spectacular night of events. Did I mention that it’s all completely FREE OF CHARGE? Well, it is! It’s coming around quickly so download your guide and start planning your Light Night 2015.

Three Queens, One Magnificent City

May also sees the gathering of Cunard Line’s 3 Queens in Liverpool. There’s a full weekend of events planned so it’s just as well that they’re here over a long Bank Holiday weekend! The Queen Mary 2, Queen Elizabeth, and Queen Victoria will meet in the River Mersey on Monday 25th May but the celebrations begin on Saturday 23rd May to welcome the majestic fleet into our fair city.

Thousands of people are expected to turn out to welcome the impressive sister ships and catch a glimpse of them in this once-in-a-lifetime event. 2015 marks Cunard’s 175th anniversary and Liverpool was their home from 1840 until 1967 and the Cunard Building is still in place on Liverpool’s iconic waterfront line as one of the ‘Three Graces’.

Liverpool is not known as shy city and certainly loves to celebrate…so, the festivities will actually span 7 weeks with an array of events to whet your party whistle!

Liverpool Sound City

Liverpool is the beating heart and soul of music culture in the UK (*in my opinion!). There are so many music venues and festivals in this city, I couldn’t even begin to count! Liverpool Sound City is just one of the upcoming ‘must-dos’ of this year and it kicks off on Friday 22nd May.

There are over 150 amazing acts playing at venues across the city and you can attend the whole weekend for just £65. See you there?

LILA* Social Programme

Never to be outdone, LILA* has highlighted these brilliant occasions on our May Social Programme as well as other fantastic happenings such as cinema trips and Zumba classes with our teachers, a charity bake sale on behalf of the Roy Castle Foundation, a 2 school quiz and pizza night in partnership with English in Chester, plus trips to York, Wales, Manchester, Port Sunlight, and the Sefton Coast.

May just became quite a good month, didn’t it?
