What to do in Liverpool at Christmas 2016

Christmas is just around the corner and Liverpool is full of decorations, lights and Christmas music! The whole city is alive with excitement for the upcoming holiday. If you’re studying at LILA* or visiting Liverpool over the next few weeks, here are a few recommendations on how to spend your time in Liverpool.

1. Snowflake Trail

If you are already in Liverpool, you might have noticed the giant snowflakes that have been put in various places in the city centre.  The snowflakes, as well as light shows, interactive illustrations and window displays, are in the city until 3rd January. There are 12 snowflake sculptures to be found and you can collect a trail map from the Liverpool One Information Centre. There are also amazing prizes that you can win if you solve the clues! 2. Christmas Cinema

There are lots of opportunities to watch Christmas films in Liverpool this year! Classic film, It’s A Wonderful Life, is showing at the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic on Christmas Eve. What better way to spend your weekend! There are also pop-up Christmas cinemas in Park Palace (click here), in The Club House in Liverpool One for FREE (click here) and at the Palm House in Sefton Park (click here). There are also lots of Christmas films showing at Odeon Cinema Liverpool One, Woolton Cinema and FACT cinema.

3. Karaoke at Liverpool One

The Christmas Tree is back in Liverpool One and this year there is a new bar underneath the tree. The Bar Hütte serves Christmas drinks and will be open until 3rd January. The bar also has Swiss-style chalets that you can book to enjoy your own private area for karaoke, drinks and warm blankets! You can book your own hut for just £20 for two hours for up to 12 people. See more here.

4. Alternative Christmas Dinner

Christmas Dinner is a British specialty but if you fancy something different, try an alternative Christmas Dinner in Liverpool! The Baltic Social on Parliament Street has a Festive Punk Afternoon Tea which includes burgers, festive cheeseboard and a shot of Baileys. Afternoon Tea and Christmas is the perfect combination! Santa Maluco on Castle Street (just around the corner from LILA*) has added the Festive Pizza to their menu. It includes roast turkey, pigs in blankets and cranberry on a pizza – what a treat! They also offer a ‘Rodizio’ – all you can eat pizza! – for just £10/£15. Red’s True Barbecue on Hanover Street is stepping up with a ‘Christmas Feast’ for just £24.95 per person. This is available for 8 people or more if you want to have a big meal to celebrate the festive season. It includes ribs, turkey, chicken and side dishes including fries, cornbread, cauliflower cheese and much more! Not one to be missed!
