Business & Finance

Part of the David Game Group

LILA* College marries the expertise of London’s David Game College in order to deliver an outstanding level of education for students enrolled on our University Foundation Programme.

Course Overview

Having established the fundamental skills of numeracy, communication and computer skills in the first phase of the University Foundation Programme (UFP) Business & Finance Foundation Pathway, students will then begin to specialise in their subject area by picking three relevant modules in phases two and three. Students can then begin to focus on their specialist subject areas by picking relevant modules in terms two and three. The major modules cover challenging subjects which constitute excellent preparation for competitive degree courses.

Our UFP Business & Finance Foundation Pathway leaves students with an in-depth knowledge of the subjects which are most important to qualify for entry into the top UK university business and finance degree courses. Our students gain a strong academic foundation along with the advanced skills to help them excel in their university studies.

Course Modules

In the first phase of the one-year pathway, students complete the three minor modules:

  • Mathematics
  • Information Technology
  • Communications Skills/IELTS

In phases 2 and 3 students study three major modules:

  • Business Organisations
  • Accounting
  • Economics

If students elect to follow the January start intensive pathway, they will study both Phase 1 and Phase 2 at the same time between January and Easter. They will then study Phase 3 alone between Easter and June.

Teaching and Assessment

The UFP Business & Finance Foundation Pathway is continually assessed, thus removing the pressure of an end of year examination. There will be mid-term examinations throughout the course and an end-of-term examination for each module. In addition, students are required to complete coursework. We offer a university-approved syllabus which fully prepares students for their undergraduate studies. Our teachers are highly qualified and are specialists in their field. The exceptional standard of education allows students to make a smooth transition to undergraduate degree-level study.

Entry Requirements

We require all applicants to hold 5 passes at UK GCSE or IGCSE (or international equivalent) at Grades C/4 or better. Two of these must be in Mathematics and English. If a student holds a recent IELTS pass with an overall result of 5.5 or above with no individual modules scoring lower than 5, this can be taken in lieu of a GCSE in English.
