Students Under 18 at LILA* College

At LILA* College, we welcome students aged under 18 through two different pathways, each with safeguarding arrangements appropriate to their age and level of independence.

Young Adults (Aged 16–17)

Students aged 16 and 17 can join our adult English programmes with parental consent. They study alongside adult students (18+) while receiving additional safeguarding support and welfare monitoring throughout their stay.

Junior Programmes (Aged 12–17)

We also offer dedicated Junior Programmes for students aged 12–17. These programmes are designed specifically for younger learners and are typically attended by organised school or educational groups. Junior students benefit from a much higher level of supervision, structured activities and age-appropriate safeguarding throughout their programme.

Young Adults (16–17)

Studying at LILA* College

As a Young Adult, you will study on one of our adult English language courses alongside students aged 18 and over. While you are part of our adult learning environment, we recognise that you are still under 18 and provide additional safeguarding measures to support your welfare during your time with us.

Before You Arrive

To ensure we can make all the necessary safeguarding arrangements, we ask that all required pre-arrival information is submitted at least two weeks before your course starts.

If you are booking within two weeks of your intended start date, please contact LILA* College before making your arrangements. We will always try to accommodate late bookings, although availability for Young Adults cannot be guaranteed at short notice.

Safeguarding for Young Adults

Young Adult students:

May study on adult programmes with written parental consent.
Will study alongside adult students aged 18+.
May attend age-appropriate social activities independently, such as walking tours, museum visits and organised weekend excursions.
Can travel by public transport to other areas outside of Liverpool IF safeguarding deems it’s safe and reasonable to do so and with parental consent (restrictions may be put in place as deemed appropriate)
May not be supervised outside scheduled LILA* College activities.
Are strongly encouraged to book LILA* College airport transfers (£100 one-way from Manchester Airport or £60 one-way from Liverpool John Lennon Airport). Alternative travel arrangements require approval from both parents/guardians and LILA* College.
Must return to their accommodation by 11:00pm every evening.
Must not stay overnight anywhere but their allocated accommodation. In special circumstances overnight stays that are not in approved accommodation must be approved by LILA* College’s safeguarding team prior to booking. The decision of the safeguarding team may override parental consent
Must not buy or consume alcohol, cigarettes, vapes or illegal substances.
Must follow the Student Code of Conduct at all times.

Additional Young Adult Welfare Support

Every Young Adult receives additional support throughout their stay, including:

A dedicated Young Adult induction check in.
Weekly welfare check-ins with our safeguarding team.
Access to our 24-hour emergency contact service.
A coloured lanyard so staff can easily identify Young Adult students.
Parent or guardian contact details held for emergency communication where required.
Ongoing access to our safeguarding team throughout their stay.

Junior Students (Aged 12–17)

Our Junior Programmes are specifically designed for younger learners and provide a structured, fully supported environment. Student safety and welfare are our highest priority, with comprehensive supervision throughout the programme.

Junior students:

Must have parental or guardian consent before travelling to the UK and participating in the programme.
May participate only in approved LILA* College programmes and activities.
Must remain with their group leader or LILA* College staff during all scheduled lessons, activities and excursions unless alternative arrangements have been authorised by the safeguarding team.
Must not leave the campus, accommodation or activities independently without prior approval from the safeguarding team and, where appropriate, parental consent.
Must not use public transport independently unless specifically authorised by the safeguarding team and parents or guardians.
Will take part only in age-appropriate social activities organised or approved by LILA* College.
Must return to their accommodation by the designated curfew set by LILA* College or their group leader.
Must stay in their allocated accommodation overnight unless exceptional circumstances have been approved in advance by both LILA* College’s safeguarding team and their parent or guardian.
Must follow the Student Code of Conduct at all times.
Must not buy, possess or consume alcohol, cigarettes, vapes or illegal substances.
Will be supervised by LILA* College staff and/or their designated group leader throughout scheduled activities, transfers and excursions.
Must have all airport arrivals and departures arranged through LILA* College or approved by the safeguarding team. Independent travel arrangements are not permitted without prior approval.

Additional Junior Welfare Support

Every Young Adult receives additional support throughout their stay, including:

A dedicated Junior induction on arrival.
Daily check ins with safeguarding / junior team.
Access to our 24-hour emergency contact service.
A coloured lanyard so staff can easily identify junior students.
Ongoing access to our safeguarding team throughout their stay.
