Course Overview

The University Foundation Programme (UFP) Science & Pharmacy Foundation Course is a one-year foundation course, which will prepare you for a wide range of Science-based bachelor degrees.

The UFP Science & Pharmacy Foundation Course enables you to build the strong scientific foundational knowledge required to study a sciences or pharmacy-related degree course. The UK is an established world leader in this subject area and graduates are in very high demand. The UFP Science & Pharmacy Foundation Course combines scientific theory and practical elements, so our students leave with the fundamental skills and knowledge needed to progress in any area of the profession.

From genetics to immunology to bionic limbs, there are many developing areas in the field of Science & Pharmacy that will affect our everyday lives in the future. While there is still a lot to discover about the human body, patient outcomes are improving all the time and the demand for graduates in this field has never been higher.

Course Modules

In the first phase of the one-year pathway, students complete the three minor modules: Mathematics, Information Technology and Communications Skills/IELTS. In phases 2 and 3 students choose three major modules from the following: Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Further Maths.

Please note that the Science pathway is not available as a 6-month intense pathway.

Teaching, Facilities and Assessment

The UFP Science & Pharmacy Foundation Course consists of interactive classroom learning, tutorials and frequent laboratory sessions. We have a custom-built, combined science laboratory in the College.

The UFP Science & Pharmacy Foundation Course is continually assessed, thus removing the pressure of an end-of-year examination. There will be mid-term examinations throughout the course and an end-of-term examination for each module. In addition, students are required to complete coursework and practical laboratory sessions. We offer a university-approved syllabus which fully prepares students for their undergraduate studies. Our teachers are highly qualified and are specialists in their field. The exceptional standard of education allows students to make a smooth transition to undergraduate degree-level study.

Entry Requirements

We require all applicants to hold 5 passes at UK GCSE or IGCSE (or international equivalent) at Grades C/4 or better. Two of these must be in Mathematics and English. If a student holds a recent IELTS pass with an overall result of 5.5 or above with no individual modules scoring lower than 5, this can be taken in lieu of a GCSE in English. In addition, we expect students wishing to follow the Science Pathway to also have achieved a grade C/4 or higher in either combined science subjects or individually in any science subjects they intend to study as majors on the UFP.
