University Foundation Programme
Part of the David Game Group
LILA* College marries the expertise of London’s David Game College in order to deliver an outstanding level of education for students enrolled on our University Foundation Programme.
What is UFP?
Founded in 1989, our foundation programme is one of the oldest and most respected independent foundation courses in the UK. The University Foundation Programme (UFP) is a one year foundation course that prepares students to attend some of the UK’s top universities including the members of the Russell Group. Recognised as an A Level (RQF Level 3) equivalent, the UFP is an alternative route to degree level studies. Our Foundation Course is recognised by over 90 universities in the UK, so you have the freedom to choose your university.
The UFP is a fantastic alternative for students wanting to go to university who do not wish to study A Levels but have appropriate GCSE or equivalent qualifications.
On this course you will:
- Study six modules, comprising of three compulsory and three elective modules
- Be assessed at regular intervals and via a blend of progress tests, coursework and examinations throughout the course, rather than in one block at the end of the year
The UFP will not qualify you for entry to dentistry or veterinary science degree courses or to Oxbridge, all of which require high grades in three A Levels.
Who applies for UFP courses?
- The majority of students on the UFP course come from an international background. They may have an excellent educational track record in their own countries, but their qualifications do not meet UK university entrance requirements
- As well as international students, we accept British students with good GCSE grades who have attempted A or AS Levels but did not achieve the grades required to enter the university course of their choice
- We also recommend UFP to students who have stopped at Certificate level on the International Baccalaureate (IB)
Key Facts for UFP
- UFP has two start dates per year: September (to June) and January (to August)
- Students study 6 modules in total: 3 minor modules in pre-determined subjects (Mathematics, IT and Communication Skills); then choose 3 major modules in subjects relevant to their intended degree course
- For those international students who require it, the UFP includes English Language tuition to prepare students for the IELTS examinations. This ensures that all UFP students meet university English Language entry requirements
- The UFP is fully accepted by over 90 British Universities and Colleges and has also been accepted by Universities in the USA, Canada and Australia
